UN Convention on the Rights of the Child
The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child ( UNCRC) is a universally recognized document which spells out the rights that all children should enjoy. The universal acceptance of this very important document took place on the 20th of November 1989. Almost all the governments in the world have signed and ratified this Convention, agreeing to ensure that the children in their countries enjoy their rights. Sri Lanka also signed this Convention in 1991 and have made many positive changes to improve the situation of children in Sri Lanka.
It is important that all children read and understand this convention and know their rights. Please see this simplified version of the UN CRC.
